How To Live A Long Life

Daily writing prompt
What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

I’m no expert in living a long life because I feel at 56 I’m only half way there! and yes I think Im going to live past a hundred. Why do I think that? Because I feel and look hella younger than 56. Besides that I am physically fit, happy (most of the time) and healthy.

Factors That Predict A Long Life

I think there are various things that we as human beings can do that will factor into how we get to live a long life. If we sit around all day being sedentary, is that going to allow us to live a long and healthy life? Probably not. One of the big factors I think into living a long life is movement. I’m not saying you need to go to the gym every single day. But if you make time to move, then I feel this makes the biggest difference of someone who lives long versus someone who doesn’t. Examples of that do include the gym but other examples are just simply going for a walk, or dance or a sport of some kind. Maybe you like to ski, skate, play sports or mountain climb even. It doesn’t matter what it is, as long as you’re up off the couch and doing something!

Nutrition May Play A Role In Living Long

Does nutrition play a role? I think it might. I feel that some people over emphasize this to a point of telling people that eating sugar, carbs and fat of any kind at anytime is hazardous to their health. I think that’s just silly. Sugar and Carbohydrates are not the villain you think they are. But! I think if you eat in excess on a frequent basis then it will definitely impact your ability to live long. Obesity can and will shorten your life. There are infinite studies to prove this. In my opinion this is the most important factor. Don’t allow yourself to get to that level of weight gain.

What About Happiness?

Does being happy matter? Does it impact your longevity? I think that contentment and happiness is a major factor in living a long life. And more importantly a decent and healthy one! Being happy matters more than you think. When people look back on their life, they don’t really focus on how much money they made or whether they bought a house or had lots of clothes and material possessions. They look back on their family and friends and whether they had a fulfilling and happy life. And so if they do this, you can safely assume that happiness is pretty darn important! I feel happiness can definitely make you live longer and make you want to live longer.

I think all these factors I described above definitely go into how long you live. But what I think is most important is how well you lived and how happy you were while you were living!
