How do you use social media?

How I Use Social Media

I used to use social media for posting strictly fitness information and blog entries like the ones I write here on WordPress. That was mostly on Facebook and Instagram. Then I got involved with people in the bodybuilding community on IG and they would post physique photos, selfies, etc. so I started doing that as well as posting workout videos. That was ok for a while but I got bored of it..

Why I Have Two Social Media Pages on Instagram

So now I have two pages on Instagram. I recently decided to market my outdoor boot camp that Im running this Spring and Summer so I created that page @newfitpersonaltraining as well as I have my long standing Instagram page @befitwithnoelle. I have turned my original Instagram page into more of a personal page. I have even privated it for a bit. This page is focused on travel, fitness and spirituality. Heavy on the spiritual, even though I have quite a bit of travel stuff too intermixed with some fitness content. I’m really happy I decided to make that page personal because I can post whatever I feel like and not be concerned with reach, likes and all of the things people concern themselves with when it comes to social media.

Facebook

My personal page on Facebook has been there since 2008. On that page I just talk about things that I am passionate about like fitness of course and also politics, racism, mental health issues, Feminism, etc. There are also jokes, math problems and Star Trek and Star Wars references because I am also quite nerdy! Then I have two business pages focusing on fitness only. One has been around for a while and the other is new. The only reason I made a new page was because I couldn’t run any Facebook ads from the original page and so that would be the other reason I use social media-is to run ads and make money.

Threads

This social media platform was created by Instagram. I really love this platform aside from the bots and trolls. I don’t know what it is with text based platforms but they always seem to have “problem accounts”. Twitter’s bad for that too but Threads is definitely not as bad and there are also some very wonderful people on there. This is also a platform where you can just be you and say whatever’s on your mind. I love it for that. You can also use it for business too and I had originally had that intention but it quickly turned into just me saying whatever. If you haven’t tried it I would suggest it especially if you’re the type who just wants to be chill and say stuff on your social media page.

Snapchat and TikTok

Not much to say about Snapchat. It’s touted as a social media platform but I found it to be just a place where you can text privately which just means it’s a place to send “pics” and possibly hook up. Not my scene so I gave that up very quickly.

When it comes to Tik Tok I originally started posting videos of me sarcastically talking about fitness and then got bombarded with insanely stupid uneducated people. I know that sounds harsh but Tik Tok is essentially full of really not smart people! I don’t know what to say about that other than do not get any of your information from Tik Tok! Anyway I cancelled that page and then a few years later tried it again and got bored. What can I say, Tik Tok is not for me!

In Conclusion

I use social media for a myriad of reasons. I do like it but I also think that people use it too much and it can be nefarious in that there is control there and not much freedom of thought. You would think that there would be but with the algorithms being able to restrict what you say and to whom the message reaches, there is limited freedoms there. Not to mention all the ads and marketing and pretty much dictating how you think and feel. It does have its positives like staying in touch, potential of making money and making creative content but it also has its dark side. Thanks for reading!
