People keep telling themselves and other people lies about their fitness, workouts and nutrition. Sometimes it’s about how often they workout, how intense their workouts are or how much they are eating throughout the day. Let’s go over some typical fitness and nutrition lies they tell themselves, their trainer and other people..
Let’s talk about calories. People often lie about how much food they’re eating in a day for fear of judgement. I have been told by many potential clients and actual clients that they are only eating 1200 or 1500 calories a day and asking why they aren’t losing weight. The answer is simple. You are eating way more than that. And I find this out by analyzing their food journal and adding up the calories. Do I think they’re doing this on purpose? Are they lying on purpose? No. They just don’t have the knowledge about what calories are and what it looks like. That’s where a professional like me comes in. To tell you the hard truths!
Workouts. They are either lying about how many times they’re working out in a week or for how long each time or how much effort they are putting into each workout session. It goes like this. They tell you that they are pretty sure they’re going to the gym two to three times per week when the likelihood is more like once, maybe twice. The problem with going once per week is that there is essentially too much rest in between workouts and so that results in that person always starting from the beginning. There is no room for growth there. If they’re not lying about frequency, then they are lying about how much effort they are putting into each workout and for how long. A thirty minute workout is great if you’re short on time but it shouldn’t be the norm. An hour is required(and sufficient) to get in a full workout including warmup, base workout an stretch at the end. Intensity always gets lied about as well. Talking on your phone or scrolling is going to take away from your workout. Too much rest in between sets also will. Lifting to failure should mean you can’t lift another rep to save your life, not leaving 2-3 reps in the tank. That’s not lifting to failure and many times? People do have reps in the tank when they say they have lifted to failure. Again. Most times the lie starts with themselves.
Another lie people tell themselves and others is the reason they stopped working out and or going to the gym. They took time off they say, because they were sick. Yet they were only sick maximum for a week maybe two yet took months off from the gym. Or they’re going on vacation and never returned to the gym. These are excuses for being lazy. I hate to say that but it’s true. I’m here to tell you truths and call out lies. Do I think they’re lying because they have nothing better to do or they want to pull one over on you or me? No. They’re just lying to themselves and the only way to change and grow is to start being honest!
Be honest about where you are physically, mentally and emotionally when it comes to your fitness. Because it is important. It’s part of good health and without your health, you don’t have much of anything.
