make sure you are successful with your fitness goals

So you have  fitness goals in mind and you have had these goals in mind before and have tried to achieve it, but it just didn’t work. Maybe you weren’t motivated enough or you didn’t have the right support system in place or you just didn’t have time. Are these reasons you weren’t successful or excuses? What if I told you there were ways of making sure you are successful. What if I told you I could guarantee that you will be successful whether it’s losing weight or gaining muscle or having boundless energy to play with your kids? Do you believe me? It’s not a magic pill or a shake or even a  certain workout. Your success lies within you. Here are five ways to make sure that this time is the last time you need to lose weight and or get healthy…

  1. Don’t give up when it gets hard or difficult or even if you think it’s impossible. Things will get in the way like your Spouse, yep I said it. They will get in the way because you are taking time away from them and your kids to workout. Your job might make it harder for you to work out and eat healthy. Maybe your shifts will change or you will have longer shifts or your co-workers and or boss brings in cake on the daily. This happened when I worked at the bank. There was junk food coming in everyday(mostly cake) just sitting there on the lunch room table. You need to adjust and change your lifestyle and that might include working out at 5 am so you can fit the workout into your busy schedule. It will also mean bringing in healthy treats from home so you can say no to the cake or donuts that are brought in to work. Don’t get defeatist, keep going and never give up.
  2. Don’t rely on motivation. Look, if you are relying on motivation only to get you through your workouts and not eating junk when it’s staring you in the face, you will fail. You will fail everytime. Motivation is very high in the beginning and you feel this is the key to success, but it’s not. This is because it is fleeting. It goes away and quickly. What you need to rely on is your determination and discipline. Make it a habit. Be determined by never forgetting what you are gaining by getting fit. Discipline is what will get you through when you feel unmotivated(which will be most of the time). Sometimes you will feel like working out, even pumped to work out but most of the time you will not. You need to make yourself do the workout. Force yourself to go to the gym. No one ever regretted going and working out because it makes you feel better afterwards and reassures you that you will get the results you’re after if you just get it done!
  3. Put all your effort into the workout. 100% effort. Not 40% or 70%, all of your effort. If you cheat or slack on your workouts, you will not get results. I am telling you that right now, every workout should be challenging enough for you. It should raise your heart rate, make you sweaty and increase strength. If it’s not challenging and it feels relatively easy then you need to kick it up a notch. Change it so that you feel challenged. If you don’t do this and just do easy workouts, you will not see the results you’re looking for. It’s not enough that you are just simply moving, you need to make sure your body is forced to adapt to the new routine.
  4. Always show up for your workouts whether it’s at an exercise class, with your Personal Trainer or you are exercising by yourself and with yourself. It is especially important to have integrity. According to the dictionary online, integrity means “keeping your promises even if it takes extra effort”. You have made a promise to yourself or others that you are going to workout certain days and times and you need to stick to that. If you don’t, you are only hurting yourself because guess what happens when you don’t show up for your workouts? You guessed it, you get no results that you were desperate in the beginning to get. You will let yourself down and you will not feel good about missing the workout. And if you made those promises to other people as well like your trainer or friends or other people in your exercise class and you don’t show up, you will not have their respect. They will learn that they can’t rely on you. So just show up and do the workout. Your life will change and you will see the fitness results you’re after.
  5. Lastly, be patient! This takes time. Results and changes do not happen overnight. Know that in time if you have applied all the other ways like putting in 100% effort, showing up when you say you’re going to, being disciplined and not giving up, you will be successful. There is no way that you won’t. I can guarantee that!

So these are five ways you can ensure your fitness success and fitness goals whatever they may be. It all starts with a good program and a positive attitude as well.
