how I stay fit as an older woman

How do I stay fit as an older woman? Well it’s almost the same thing I did when I was younger! I exercise regularly and this always includes weights. It’s super important that women lift weights, especially after the age of 30. It’s even more important after the ages of 40, 50 and 60!

I also walk a lot! I don’t drive or use public transportation very much. Driving to and from the store will lead to being way more sedentary than if you just walked. I see people driving just to get to the next block over when they could have walked. You see the point I’m making? People need to walk way more than they do!

I also incorporate intentional cardio exercise. Specifically HIIT and MIIT cardio workouts. If you don’t know already, HIIT stands for high intensity interval training. It is taxing on the body, on your heart rate. Yes it’s high intensity and can feel difficult but it’s generally short in time, so you can get your cardio in, in a shorter time period. No need to spend hours or even as little as one hour for your cardio. It’s done in 20 minutes or so. I do these types of workouts about three times a week.

Let’s talk food! I love food but 80% of the time it’s healthy and lean. An example is lean proteins such as chicken breast, vegetables in the form of salads (most of the time) and lower calorie foods like fruit and yogourt. Having said that there is no deprivation happening here. I have something yummy like cake, cookies, puddings etc every single day. I just keep the portion in check because I know I can burn the extra 200-300 calories off with my workouts. And if it’s higher than that, I will only have that type of food once per week(think 1000 calories or higher). Having that just once a week gives you the confidence that you will probably burn it off in a weeks time. No big deal. Just don’t eat in excess like that every day and you’ll be fine.

I’m also convinced laughing and having a good time also helps you stay fit. I make sure I’m laughing at something every single day, even if I’m just laughing at myself!
