What is one question that I hate to be asked? As a personal trainer of 20 odd years I am asked many questions. Some of them are completely legit. Examples of valid questions are “how long is it going to take me to lose 20 pounds? “. Easy answer. Most people use between 1-2 pounds per week so this is just a matter of doing the math. Or what kind of workouts should I do to lose fat and gain muscle. Easy answer as well. Not at all annoying.
The One Question
I know this one question might seem completely reasonable to you. But for me it’s annoying, only when it’s the very first question a potential client will ask. In my experience anyone that asks this question first, never becomes a client. Why? Because they don’t really care about anything else. They don’t care about their goals if they even have any and they don’t really care how you’re going to help them get there. These are what we call in sales, tire kickers. And that is why I find this question annoying.
What Are Your Prices?
Sounds legit. It’s a reasonable question right? You need to know if you can afford this. I totally get it. I expect this question to come up one hundred percent. But when it’s asked before any other question, it’s irritating. I feel you should want to know what credentials I have. How much experience? What clients have you worked with before and what were their results? How are you going to help me? Questions like that. Also do you have open availability? Or what kind of availability do you have? It makes no sense to ask for prices first if I can’t even help you.
I Love Questions And Answering Them
I love getting questions and answering them. I totally expect financial questions. Just don’t make it the first one because I will just assume you’re not serious and price is the only consideration instead of whether I can actually help you!
